Advancing public health through nutrition and dietary guidance
Komal Singh and Richa Singh
Public health nutrition is a field of study that focuses on understanding the relationship between diet and health at the population level. It seeks to improve public health by promoting healthy eating patterns, reducing the risk of diet-related diseases, and addressing issues of food insecurity and malnutrition. With global challenges such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and malnutrition, the role of public health nutrition has never been more critical. This article explores the importance of public health nutrition, strategies for promoting healthy dietary practices, and the factors that influence our food choices. The goal of public health is to enhance the quality of life for populations by monitoring current instances and health indicators and encouraging healthy surroundings and habits. The CDC Core Public Health Functions Steering Committee identified ten critical public health services in 1994, including assessment, common health-promoting dietary patterns, policy development, quality assurance, and research. These services aim to promote well-being through the avoidance of transmissible diseases, proper nutrition, childhood communicable disease immunizations, adequate sanitation, and the provision of safe and enough drinking water.
